ABOUT US
Tanya Irwin is a graduate of the Tchaikovsky School of Music in Ekaterinburg, Russia, where she majored in music science, composition, and pedagogy. Following her graduation, she taught piano, music theory and music appreciation at the Russian Children's Academy. Tanya moved to the United States in 1996. For the past 15 years, she has been teaching piano, art and music appreciation, and music theory to children. During this time, she has developed her own methodology for early childhood music education.
PIANO LESSONS
The lessons are taught in the authentic tradition of the Russian classical school of music, based on a complete music education (“wholeness” in music education). This includes the following: music literacy, ear training, singing, music theory (i.e. grammar and musical syntax, style and form), as well as a detailed approach to piano technique, i.e. phrasing, articulation, “hands breathing”, “hands singing”, beauty of tone, etc.. Music appreciation is optional.
Children are natural performers. They love to show other children, their parents and relatives what they have learned. Periodic recitals and impromptu playing for others allow them the chance to take pride in their accomplishments and have a lot of fun…
Piano recitals are offered in my home studio, as well as through the MTAC (Music Teacher Association of California).
Performing a musical instrument is the most challenging skill. Most children, who take piano lessons, are not going to become professional musicians. However, if your child can play an instrument, he/she can accomplish anything in life.
